he Daily News has engaged in several practices that suggest the tabloid's circulation figures may be inflated, a Post investigation has revealed.
In interviews with The Post, retailers and home-delivery dealers for the News described deals and practices that could serve to artificially boost the News' paid circulation.
They include charging retailers for papers that are given away, then reimbursing those retailers; failing to take nonpaying home subscribers off distribution lists and keep them off; and charging home-delivery dealers for papers they don't need, then later reimbursing them.
I could really care less but, this is such BS... Go to any store that sell the NY Post, and at the end of the day count how many posts are left. I bet between 5 and 15, and at the end of the week, they all get sent back, and the store gets reimbursed.
I know I sold the NY Post and Daily News for years, and the post always sent 2 or 3 times as many papers as we needed. I never gave it a second thought until today, but after reading what they're accusing the News of...
I wonder if they've got a guilty conscience.
...and speaking of the News,
In a blizzard of confetti and a storm of cheers, Bill Clinton walked back onto the political stage in Philadelphia yesterday to tell Americans that good times will return if they give John Kerry his old job. "From time to time I've been called the Comeback Kid," Clinton said. "In eight days, John Kerry is going to make America the comeback country." link
nice headline today...
